Blogs vs Websites?

Whew sorry about the long hiatus folks, lately I just edited 50 blog posts in two days. Altering the blogger codes and templates to make the blog appear more professional and more like a website.

Aside from that I just got recently drenched in rain. You see, I live in a tropical resort for sale in the Philippines.

Anyway, so I just took a shower after inspecting the perimeter myself. I regularly do so to see how the walls are holding up to the torrential rain. But that's not why you are here so I'll get to the point.

Blog vs Website

1. Blogs are Linear / Chronological, Websites are Hierarchical

Blogs derive their name from web logs, but I am sure you already know that. This simply means that rather than make pages which stand there through the test of time, blogs tend to organize its web pages in accordance with the date and time you posted them. So the newest blog post comes first, oldest goes to the archives.

Websites on the other hand are organized however way the web developer or software deems fit.

2. Blogs are Easier to Make than Web Pages.

I don't know for other blogging platforms but in blogger, I don't even have to think about how to arrange the blog posts because they're automatically arranged according to time. Furthermore, blogger's platform is extremely user friendly that even a 5 year old could make a blog in 2 minutes without even thinking. Now, whether this is good or bad is entirely up to the reader.

Though there are many web based publishing software and platforms out there now, they are still quite limited by the technical nature of the terminologies involved.

What's an FTP?
Which folder should I put this web page on?
What should I name this web page?

Add to that a myriad of languages like php, asp and javascript and you'd have a whole suit of books that you need to buy and read or a full blown web project that needs to be made by a  paid professional.

Not so easy as 1 - 2 - 3.

In Blogger, you just sign up with your Google account which most people already have, choose a template and then make a new post or page.

With websites, you have to create a user account on the web publishing platform that you intend to use. Buy a domain, map the domain, make the web page, fret about where the content is going to be placed in the layout, think about the file name, think about the url, then upload the page via FTP,

You won't experience that with blogs.

3. Blogs are flexible - Traditional Web Pages Need a Lot of Coding for them to be Flexible.

These days, dynamic web sites (meaning web sites that change their content and appearance when the user interacts with it) are all the rage. But if you don't have a budget and if you don't have the time or expertise, making a dynamic web page is simply not doable. You need to get that business page up and you need it now!

You can do that with blogger. Make some minor adjustments to the template and layout and you have yourself a professional looking business page that's readily accessible for anyone you give your web address to.

P.S.

Because of the ease by which you can create web pages, blogs readily offer themselves as the fun and ideal platform for your Internet Marketing Campaign. In fact, many people are already doing this.

For further proof that blogs can look like a professional web site with minimal effort, please do check out one of my business blogs at www.resort-for-sale.com. It's sole purpose is to sell the resort I am living in. Where I live, this would be a challenging effort to do.
