SEO and Nostradamus

In my other blog, dannybuntu.com, I wrote about how we could use technology to predict the future. Since this is my marketing blog, I would be treating the subject from a marketing point of view.

"Be There Before the Buyer Gets There"

The assumption is this, most, if not all websites are already engaged in the practice of engaging in SEO in one way or another. I've actually worked for seasoned Internet Marketers as a writer so I know exactly what marketers are doing. They are flooding the web with content that is outsourced in the hopes of gaining Google's trust and favor.

This contributes to an overall bad user experience on the Internet. What I would propose is rather to utilize web metrics and social media analytics to try to predict trends that are not yet there. There is a huge difference between predicting something because it already happened before under similar conditions and parameters, and predicting something out of the blue.

I surmise that 10 years before, nobody would have predicted the creation of the iPad. Even if they had rudimentary concepts of the iPad, such as a "web enabled tablet PC with no need for traditional PC peripherals", they still would not have been able to predict the creation of the word iPad, the company who will make it first, when the company will sell it and what the underlying circumstances and conditions will enable its existence.

But let's suppose that it was possible and somebody bought a domain very similar in name to the iPad, and conducted a moderate Search Engine Optimization campaign around it. Then by the time that the iPad would have been released, the website domain would have been there first, aged, linked and firmly settled in the search engine rankings.

Such a position could be tenable for several revenue streams, among them would be direct advertisement, domaining, affiliate marketing or even Google adsense.

But the question is, which word, that is currently not in the radar of Google or any search engine for that matter, today, would be a buzz word in the future.

I leave that question to you oh dear reader. You're welcome to make comments.
